Think before you toss or flush unused prescription drugs. Dispose of old meds safely by following these guidelines from the Food and Drug Administration:
  • Look for take-back programs in your community. First try the pharmacy where you bought the prescription.
  • If you must toss old meds, remove them from the original packaging and place them in a tightly sealed container.
  • Mix meds with coffee grounds or kitty litter before throwing them out.
  • Remove identifying information from the original package before you toss it.
